Trainers are hired in each electoral division to provide classroom training to all election officers. Trainers conduct in-person scenario-based training sessions to prepare election staff for their roles. The training provided includes the technology-based processes for advance voting, paper-based processes used on Election Day, and problem-solving techniques. Trainers plan and organize the training schedules for election officers and conduct training sessions in various locations throughout the electoral division. The Trainer uses the provided training materials supplied by Elections Alberta to assist in the delivery of training. Trainers also assist in the recruitment of election officers.
This role is compensated $23/hour.

Returning Office Staff Fee Schedule
Time Commitment
Once the next Provincial General Election is called*, Trainers will work full-time during the election period. Trainers will also need to be available for training, to open and establish the returning office, as well as for advance voting and election day support.
*Alberta has a fixed election date. The next provincial election is anticipated to occur on May 29, 2023 (writ issued May 1, 2023). Key dates include:
- Training: March 2023
- Opening the returning office: April 2023
- Election Period – Full Time Work: May 1 – 29, 2023
