2015-16 Annual Report of the Chief Electoral Officer

EDMONTON – Alberta’s Chief Electoral Officer, Glen Resler, today released his 2015-16 Annual Report as required by section 4(2) of the Election Finances and Contributions Disclosure Act (EFCDA).
The report contains financial reporting information from the 2015 Provincial General Election and the 2015 Calgary-Foothills By-election, including campaign period financial statements, election period advertising reports and candidate registration information.
It also contains information on the annual activities of Elections Alberta relating to the registration, annual financial statements, and quarterly reporting responsibilities of registered parties, constituency associations, candidates, leadership contestants and third parties. An overview of investigations conducted by this office relating to alleged contraventions of the EFCDA is included.
Some highlights of the report include:
Financial reports from the 2015 Provincial General Election.
- Financial reports from the 2015 Calgary-Foothills By-election.
- Legislative review by the Special Select Ethics and Accountability Committee and the Minister of Justice and Solicitor General, of recommendations for legislative change submitted by Elections Alberta and stakeholder representatives.
- New legislation with Bill 1, An Act to Renew Democracy in Alberta, effective June 15, 2015.
- Historical summary of contributions to registered political parties and constituency associations.
- Historical summary of tax credits claimed for political contributions.
- Financial statements of the Office of the Chief Electoral Officer.
Elections Alberta is an independent non-partisan office of the Legislative Assembly responsible for administering provincial elections, by-elections, referenda and Senate Nominee elections.
