Calgary-Lougheed Elections Alberta Office Now Open for the Provincial By-Election

EDMONTON – Alberta’s Chief Electoral Officer, Glen Resler, confirms that a Writ was issued to administer a by-election to be held in Calgary-Lougheed.  “The Returning Officer and Election Clerk have been appointed and are ready to manage and conduct voting in the electoral division”, said Resler.  Election Day is on December 14th, 2017.

Canadian citizens who have lived in Alberta since June 14th, 2017 and are at least 18 years of age or older on Election Day are eligible to vote if they are resident in the electoral division.

There are 30,023 electors registered in Calgary-Lougheed.  The percentage of voter turnout in the 2015 Provincial General Election for Calgary-Lougheed was 51%, in comparison to the provincial voter turnout of 57%.

To be added to the List of Electors, an elector with an Alberta Driver’s Licence or ID card, may register on-line using Voterlink on our website at www.elections.ab.ca, until Saturday, December 2nd, 2017.  To register at an Advance Poll or on Election Day you must provide authorized identification containing your name and residential address in the electoral division.  A list of authorized identification is on our website:  click on “Voters” and then click on “ID required to vote”.

Election Timelines:

  • Electors have 28 days to vote by Special Ballot beginning November 16th, 2017.
  • Candidate nominations begin Thursday, November 16th, 2017 and end at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 26th, 2017.
  • Advance Polls begin Wednesday, December 6th, 2017 and end on Saturday, December 9th, 2017 from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. each day. Electors are able to vote at any of the three advance polls, which are all wheelchair accessible:
    • Spruce Meadows British House
      • 18011 Spruce Meadows Way SW
    • South Gate Alliance
      • 1436 James McKevitt Road SW
    • Woodcreek Community Association
      • 1991 Woodview Drive SW
